Integrate LinkedIn with Outlook

If you haven’t already, check out some of the cool social media integration that is coming for Outlook 2010 and sites like LinkedIn.  Right now, a connector is available for LinkedIn, but Microsoft has announced plans to also integrate outlook with Facebook and MySpace.   Here are the relevant downloads to play around with it:

Scanning for duplicates

Believe it or not, mistakes can be made during data-entry.  And duplicates are definitely annoying. And duplicates are definitely annoying.

Duplicate records in your database can cause you a lot of trouble, especially if they go unnoticed.  Fortunately, Microsoft Dynamics CRM can help you automatically find duplicate records and deal with them so that you can maintain a clean database.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Click on a list of records on the Navigation Pane, such as Accounts.
  2. Click the More Actions drop-down on the toolbar.  Click Detect Duplicates.
  3. Give the duplicate detection job a name, start time, and frequency.  Click OK.

Tips & Tricks

  • When creating a duplicate detection job, you have the option to narrow the job to a subset of the database.  Setting a query in the duplicate detection wizard will narrow down the range of records searched.  For example, you might only want to find duplicates that you own.



Viewing pending activities and past history associated with a record

You may remember what you’ve done with a contact or company in your database, but you may not be aware of the tasks and e-mails that others have done with a record.

In the Activities and History tabs within CRM, you can get a full picture of all activities, e-mails, and tasks that have been entered by anyone in your organization.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open a record.  For example, you might open a company or contact record.
  2. On the left, click the Activities option.   A list of pending activities scheduled with the record will appear.
  3. Now, click the History option.  This will show a list of e-mails sent, as well as past appointments and tasks that have been completed.

Tips & Tricks

  • Using an iframe, you can add activities and history to the main screen on your record form.
